What is the climate mobilization?

The Climate Mobilization (TCM) is a national grassroots environmental advocacy group working toward large-scale political action against global warming, with the belief that the crisis of climate change requires a national economic effort on the scale of the American mobilization of the home front during World War II. The Climate Mobilization North Jersey is the Hudson County volunteer run chapter.

TCM North Jersey has partnered with Sustainable JC to empower volunteers to get involved in direct action in their community. This collaboration will afford participants to take a deep dive into TCM's local and national work and the theory of organizing, and share how to implement policy and legislative change using a proven framework.

Focus areas will include opportunities to understand approaches to addressing local climate issues, step by step examples of how to contact local officials or get a resolution in front of city council, and building relationships with passive, neutral, and active allies.

Volunteers can expect to get involved in direct action through:

  • Written legislation, including resolutions and ordinances

  • Attending City Council or other Board meetings

  • Local volunteer run projects like the upcoming Algae Farm in Hoboken

TCM North Jersey hosts a virtual community meeting once a month, where they partner with other local activists to discuss environmental and political issues.

TCM North Jersey, originally TCM Hoboken, formed in 2016. Their first major victory was the 2017 Hoboken Resolution calling for an attempt on carbon neutrality by 2017 and a city wide GHG inventory. Since then, they have expanded throughout Hudson County and work with a coalition of environmental organizations throughout the state of New Jersey, including Food & Water Watch, Don’t Gas the Meadowlands, and the Sierra Club.
