SJC's GOOD FOOD NOW ! initiative supports a variety of programs that are being rolled out by Stacey Flanagan, under the new Health & Human Services initiative "Partnership For A Healthier Jersey City". This is one of them ~
Bringing innovative programming to the Jersey City WIC Program (Women, Infants & Children Supplemental Nutritional Programming and Financial Support) is as exciting as the new HHS Campus up at 199 Summit Avenue !
COOKING MATTERS is pragmatic approach to making healthier food options more accessible to families. Through these fun touring experiences, participants are educated about more nutritious selections they can make and how to use cost effective strategies when they shop.
See Call For Vounteers below.
HHS MESSAGE:
In an effort to encourages Jersey City WIC participants to shop for healthy foods without breaking the bank, we are offering Cooking Matters @The Store to our WIC Clients.
Each tour leads 3-6 clients through the grocery tour sharing insight on nutritional information and cost effective purchasing. Every participant leaves with new information, a reusable tote, and a $10 gift card to shop at the local Extra.
Over the past 2 weeks we have conducted a few trial tours and now we are ready to roll out the program.
Our goal is to reach 2,000 WIC participants by July 31st! With this aggressive goal, we wanted to share this as an opportunity for residents that have expressed interest in building a Healthier JC.
Interested individuals would need to fill out the link here and participate in an online training: http://www.tfaforms.com/288063
After training, Gillian Sargeant-Allen will reach out to schedule tours.
Tours will be conducted Monday - Friday, every hour beginning at 10am - 2pm and alternating Saturday every hour beginning at 8am - 12pm.
Thanks for help spreading the word.
All the Best,
