What is Community Solar?

Community Solar is an easy way for you to help reduce New Jersey's energy dependence on fossil fuels. It enables residents to tap into solar energy without the hassle or cost of installing panels. Instead, through the use of community solar projects, solar power is delivered to your local power grid, and you receive solar credits on your utility bill.

Subscribers are eligible to join Community Solar projects in their home town, or in an adjoining town or county, depending on how the project is categorized by the NJ Clean Energy Office. The good news is that there are always multiple project options offered for Subscribers in PSEG’s region; however, Subscribers can only receive their solar credits from one project and can not join multiple projects.

What About Jersey City ?

There are a lot of opportunities for Solar installations in Jersey City.  On rooftops big and small, parking lots, empty lots, sides of skyscrapers, Special Improvement Districts (SIDs).  Right now there are almost 100 buildings with solar panels in Jersey City, but that's less than 1% of what is possible - and it can be a profitable return on investment !

So how do we make deployment of more Solar happen faster in Jersey City?  By educating more community stakeholders - we've begun to do this and will continue to do so into 2020.  If you are interested to work on this project initiative, drop us a note here.

The Importance of Low & Moderate Income Participation in Community Solar

Also, we can do a District Solar Project here in Jersey City - what about one or more of our (7) Special Improvement Districts, or what about the new BAY FRONT development being planned on the west side? We should be creating municipal incentives to deploy more Solar, particularly if officials are serious about lowering the City's carbon footprint (gentle reminder :-).
